COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON INGLEWOOD OIL FIELD

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, residents of the Second Supervisorial District and representatives from the California Department of Conservation and the South Coast Air Quality Management District gathered together last week to discuss pending litigation and regulation of the Inglewood Oil Field in the Garden Room at the Veterans Memorial Building in Culver City.

The Supervisor provided residents with an update on the progress and status of negotiations to resolve litigation brought by the City of Culver City and local community organizations against Plains Exploration and Production Company and Los Angeles County.

The meeting was an open dialogue in which residents asked questions and representatives from involved agencies addressed outstanding community concerns.

We will post a synopsis of the questions and answers for review in the near future. In addition, a follow-up community update will be held in the upcoming month.

FORESCEE HOGAN-ROWLES NAMED SECOND DISTRICT HONOREE FOR 26TH ANNUAL WOMEN OF THE YEAR AWARD

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas is pleased to announce that Forescee Hogan-Rowles, president and chief executive officer of the Community Financial Resource Center, is the Second District recipient of the 26th Annual Women of the Year Award. Hogan-Rowles and honorees from the four other Supervisorial Districts will be honored at a luncheon hosted by the Los Angeles County Commission for Women at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

“Forescee has a long history of outstanding service to Los Angeles,” said Supervisor Ridley-Thomas. “Her skills, abilities and commitment to economic empowerment have yielded tangible results – new businesses, new jobs and new enterprises for the community.”

For the past 25 years, the commission has honored women who serve as outstanding role models for women, and who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in their professions.

Other honorees include: Faye Washington, chief executive officer for the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, Aileen Getty, community advocate and founder of Gettlove, Terri Chew Nishimura, executive director of policy and community affairs for the Pediatric Therapy Network, Jane Frye, director of the High Desert Medical Group Urgent Care, and Dianne Curtis, president of Zonta International.

“I applaud these outstanding women who empower others, influence their communities, and inspire economic change,” said Supervisor Ridley-Thomas. “These phenomenal honorees are role models for women throughout the County.”

Supervisor Ridley-Thomas Reflects on Accomplishments of Second Year in Office, Vows Bold Action for Year to Come

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas today marked the second anniversary of his taking the oath of office with a look back at the year’s many
accomplishments and a vigorous plan of action for the year ahead.

Since taking office on December 1, 2008, Supervisor Ridley-Thomas has spearheaded a number of projects to improve the quality of life in the Second District and throughout Los Angeles County. In partnership with dedicated community leaders, elected officials in all levels of government, and with the continued guidance of his transition team, Supervisor Ridley-Thomas has:

 Secured nearly $4 billion in County funds for major capital projects throughout the Second District;

 Reached major milestones in opening a new Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Medical Center, a $400 million investment that will bring the highest quality of patient care to the Second District. The new 38-acre site will include space for an emergency department, inpatient pharmacy, operating rooms and 120 patient beds. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas broke ground on the campus’ $20 million South Health Center in September and is working with the University of California Board of Regents, the newly appointed Board of Directors, and countless community stakeholders to open an Inpatient Tower and a Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center for outpatient services beginning in 2013;
