Applications For New Clinic Sites In South L.A. Being Accepted

Approximately $15 million is targeted for South L.A. over next three years

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas today announced that applications are being accepted for the County’s clinic expansion project.

The Supervisor voted in February for the initiative to create and support new clinic sites in underserved areas of the county. The “Clinic Capacity Expansion Project” is intended to provide funds for infrastructure projects – including new construction, renovations, and equipment – to new and existing community health clinics in high-need areas.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services’ (DHS) has released Request for Applications (RFA) for the project.

“I am urging new and existing eligible applicants as are encouraged to apply for this project, as it presents a huge funding opportunity for free and low-cost community clinics, particularly those serving South Los Angeles,“ Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said.

These one-time only funds, he added, have been allocated to increase capacity in areas of the County with the least amount of existing resources so that applicants can take advantage of other new funding opportunities to sustain their operations.

All projects funded as part of the RFA must be completed within two years of the effective date of the agreement. The Department of Health Services will be responsible for administering the agreements, which result from this application process.

The deadline to submit RFAs is 4 p.m. on May 27, 2009. An Eligible Applicants Conference is scheduled for April 13, 2009 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Health Services Administration Auditorium, 313 N. Figueroa St. , Los Angeles , CA 90012.

The Department of Health Services strongly encourages all potential applicants to attend the Eligible Applicants Conference, as this will be the last opportunity to ask questions.
