Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas has proposed a one-year pilot project that would allow solo drivers to pay a toll to use carpool lanes on portions of the Harbor (I-110) and San Bernardino (I-10) Freeways that will generate revenue to improve public transportation and create more than 7,000 construction-related jobs. Learn more about the Supervisors proposal here (PDF) or by visiting Metro’s website dedicated to the Congestion Reduction Demonstration Project.

The project will be the focus of five public hearings this month. The Second District hearing will be held June 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Adult Activity Room at the Carson Community Center, 801 E. Carson St., Carson.

UPDATE: Another Second District hearing has been added on June 18th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Darby Park in Inglewood. The address is 3400 W Arbor Vitae St.

Inglewood Police Need Public's Help Tracking Down Suspects In A Drive-By Shooting Of 24-Year-Old Woman

Inglewood police need the public’s help tracking down suspects in a drive-by shooting that killed a 24-year-old woman.

Police said Crystal Crawford was sitting in her car (last) Saturday night near 95th street and 8th Avenue when suspects pulled up in a gray sedan and opened fire. Crawford was killed, and one of her passengers was shot in the jaw. He is expected to survive.

Crawford’s mother Wanda Fifer Crawford is demanding justice for the fatal shooting. “We’re going to be missing her forever because she made a great impact on all of our lives,” she said.

Crawford graduated from Biola University, and she was a teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Preschool in El Segundo.

Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related. Anyone with information is urged to call Inglewood police at (888) 41-CRIME.

Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor Community Meetings

You are invited to attend a Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor Alternatives Analysis (AA) project update meeting. In September 2008, Metro held four Early Scoping meetings to obtain community input on the alternatives and environmental issues to be studied in the AA. Based on feedback received at those meetings and more detailed technical analysis, a set of modal and routing alternatives has been developed for further study.

Please join us to receive a status update and a schedule for future project milestones for the Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor.
