Supervisor Ridley-Thomas, Tavis Smiley, Cornel West and Community leaders Call for Metro Board to Back a First-Rate Crenshaw/LAX Rail Line

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, entrepreneur and broadcaster Tavis Smiley and renowned Princeton scholar Cornel West joined a group of community leaders at a news conference Wednesday morning calling on Metro to make vital improvements to the Crenshaw/LAX Light Rail Corridor. A Metro Board motion by Supervisor Ridley-Thomas calls for a station at Leimert Park Village and a tunnel through the Park Mesa Heights section of Crenshaw Boulevard, where the train is now planned to run at street level.

The news conference was held at Tavis Smiley’s Leimert Park studios. Also speaking were Blair Taylor, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Urban League, Tunua Thrash, executive director of the West Angeles Community Development Corporation, Jackie Ryan of the Leimert Park Merchants Association and community activist Damien Goodmon.
