Help Plan the Future of the Harbor Subdivision

You are invited to attend a project update on the Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor Alternatives Analysis (AA). In April and May 2009, Metro held public meetings to obtain your feedback on the four project alternatives to be carried forward through the duration of the study. Based on comments received at those meetings as well as more detailed technical analysis, Metro has completed the AA and will present the results at a series of community meetings this fall.

After two years of studying options for a new transit system for the Crenshaw/South Bay Transit Corridor, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is encouraging public comment on draft environmental documents at four public hearings beginning tomorrow:

VIDEO: Stakeholders Urge Board To Consider Enhancements to Existing Ordinance Regulating Oil Drilling in Baldwin Hills Area

On Tuesday the Board of Supervisors heard supporting testimony from residents of Baldwin Hills and nearby communities to consider modifications and enhancements to the existing Baldwin Hills Community Standards District (”CSD”) ordinance, which oversees oil drilling in Baldwin Hills.

Finally, Supervisor Ridley-Thomas thanked the stakeholders for their testimony and then asked the Board of Supervisors for their unanimous vote in favor of the motion to consider modifications and enhancements to the existing Baldwin Hills Community Standards District (”CSD”) ordinance. The Board voted 5-0 in favor of the motion.

VIDEO: Inglewood Native Mia Jackson Featured On CNN’s ‘Black in America 2′

Mia Jackson, 27, who was born and raised in Inglewood, was recently featured on CNN’s “Black in America 2″. Mia, who was the valedictorian at St. Mary’s Academy High School in 2000 and earned her Chemical Engineering degree from UCLA in 2005, is currently a fellow in the Management Leadership for Tomorrow program and will soon enter the Northwestern Kellogg School of Management.

VIDEO: Kimberly Anyadike Honored As Youngest African American Female To Fly Solo Across Country

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Supervisor Ridley-Thomas honored Kimberly Anyadike — the youngest African American female to fly a plane solo across the country — at last week’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Robin Petgrave, the founder of Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum, was also recognized by Supervisor Ridley-Thomas for his work in helping young pilots like Kimberly.

Inglewood Teen Becomes Youngest African American Female To Fly Solo Across Country

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Fifteen-year-old Kimberly Anyadike of Inglewood became the youngest African American female to fly a plane solo across the country. She took off from Compton Airport two weeks ago and flew to Newport News, Virginia, along with a safety pilot and 87-year-old Tuskegee Airmen, Levi Thornhill (seen with Kimberly in the L.A. Times photo at right).
