America I AM: The African American Imprintis an impressive presentation of nearly 500 years of contributions from the African American community to this nation’s history.  The exhibit houses rare artifacts, photos, documents and objects that chronicle and celebrate the trials and the triumphs that have shaped the black experience in America.

The brainchild of popular broadcaster Tavis Smiley, the exhibit is scheduled to debut in Los Angeles at the California Science Center on October 30, 2009 for a limited engagement.  This will be the first showing of the exhibit on the west coast and the third stop on a four year, multi-city tour.  

The exhibition is a 13,000 sq ft presentation that details economic, socio-political, cultural and spiritual contributions made by African Americans to American history.  The exhibition journeys from important events relating to the African Diaspora up through notable contributions in the 21st century, including the election of the first African American president. 

The California Science Center and IMAX Theater are located in historic Exposition Park just west of the Harbor (110) Freeway at 700 Exposition Park Drive. The Science Center is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 pm.
