Empowerment Congress session provides valuable insight into second district healthcare

The Empowerment Congress hosted its 20th annual Empowerment Congress Summit at the University of Southern California. Over 2,000 residents of the Second District gathered to celebrate the event and engage.

The Health Committee of the Empowerment Congress invited participants to an informative session on the Affordable Care Act (the 2010 health reform law) and its direct effects on the Second District. Local community experts provided an overview and answered questions about the important piece of legislation and the benefits that have recently become available to Second District residents.

Additionally, Los Angeles County’s Department of Health Services provided information on the Healthy Way LA program, a new no cost health care program that provides health care coverage to low-income uninsured adult citizens and legal residents. A community member provided testimony as to how they have already benefited from Healthy Way LA.
