Volunteer at the Baldwin Hills Science Overlook

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is one of the Second District’s most inspiring natural destinations, but all that beauty does not come without stakeholders shedding some sweat through important restoration and conservation efforts. Once exploited for its oil, Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook has been transformed into a symbol of restoration and conservation. Take in breathtaking views, hike through restored native habitat, and enjoy a state of the art visitor center at this stunning new urban park. On February 18th, do your part to enhance the park by removing pest plants and planting native ones. Participate in a volunteer day held by Generation Water and Mujeres de la Tierra, with partners CA State Parks, CA State Parks Foundation, and Park Champions. There will be projects for all ages and skill levels.

Date:   Saturday February 18th, 2012
Time:   9am – 1pm
Location:  Baldwin Hills – picnic tables mid-way up the hill
Attire:   Sturdy shoes, a hat, long sleeves

Participants will be removing several pest plants from the park, and enhancing the areas they are removed from with native plants.  There are projects for people with all levels of familiarity with plants, from novice to expert, and all levels of exertion, from sweaty to childfriendly. Gloves, water and snacks will be provided for all volunteers. Come on out and enjoy the views, make some friends, and follow through on that resolution to do more in your community.

(Event cancelled in case of rain)
